The Houston Texans have reached an agreement with wide receiver Nico Collins on a lucrative three-year extension worth $72.75 million. The deal, negotiated by agents Drew Rosenhaus, Ryan Matha, and Jason Rosenhaus, includes an impressive $52 million guaranteed and has a potential value of up to $75 million. This extension comes at a pivotal point for Collins, who is coming off a standout season where he demonstrated his value as a top receiver in the league.
Collins, aged 25, showcased his talents in the previous season by posting impressive numbers. With 80 receptions, 1,297 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns in just 15 games, he established himself as a key player for the Texans. Being selected in the third round of the 2021 draft, Collins has quickly made a name for himself in the NFL with a total of 150 catches, 2,224 yards, and 11 touchdowns over three seasons.
The Texans decision to extend Collins comes after making significant moves to strengthen their receiving corps. In a bold move, the team acquired Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a second-round pick in 2025 and two future draft selections. Diggs, who is set to become a free agent after this season, received a contract modification from the Texans, boosting his 2024 base salary to $22.52 million.
By extending Collins’ contract, the Texans have secured two dynamic playmakers in their roster until beyond the 2024 season. Alongside Tank Dell, a promising third-round pick from 2023, the team now boasts a formidable trio of receivers capable of creating mismatches for opposing defenses. Despite Dell’s injury setback last season, he has shown tremendous potential and is expected to contribute significantly to the team’s success.
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans expressed his excitement about the team’s revamped receiver group, emphasizing their unique qualities and explosive playmaking abilities. Ryans envisions a versatile and impactful offense with Collins, Dell, and Diggs leading the charge. With their diverse skill sets and ability to make big plays, the trio is poised to elevate the Texans’ passing game to new heights.
